Lighting Design Awards 2008

05/12/2007

The three month judging process has begun for the 2008 Lighting Design Awards. Buildings up and down the country are now being scrutinised for their illumination innovation in the build up to the glittering awards evening being held at the London Hilton on March 6

Lighting Design Awards 2008A panel of six lighting experts is currently scouring the country trying to find the nation’s best-lit buildings. Judges from the prestigious Lighting Design Awards are spending three months visiting churches, hospitals, schools, nightclubs, shops, homes and other buildings to find examples of outstanding illumination.

“The Lighting Design Awards are widely recognised as the ultimate stamp of excellence,” says Ray Molony of the Lighting Design Awards. “Therefore these on-site visits are crucial to ensure that the high standards are maintained.” The Lighting Design Awards also includes an innovations category, which is tasked to find the best new lamps and luminaires.

The panel comprises Tony Rimmer, principal of Studio 29; Maida Hot, lighting design director at NDYLight; Graham Large of the Waterman Group; David Mooney, regional associate at PB; Gerry Knowles, managing director of General Lamps and Gareth Pritchard, Education Services Manager at the Institution of Lighting Engineers. A new category has been added this year, Low Carbon Projects, to recognise installations that balance exceptional creativity with minimal environmental impact. Winners will be presented at a glittering ceremony at the London Hilton on Park Lane on Thursday 6 March 2008. For more information on attending the event, log onto www.lightingawards.com
