The Yorkshire and North East branch of the Association of Women in Property has raised £3,000 for Breast Cancer Haven’s Yorkshire Appeal at its annual charity ball.

The pink themed event took place at the Queens Hotel, Leeds, where 140 guests enjoyed a champagne reception, dinner and dancing, and an auction with some fabulous prizes including tickets for the ballet and an overnight stay at the luxurious Devonshire Arms hotel at Bolton Abbey.

Funky pink construction hard hats complete with diamante decoration were sourced by Breast Cancer Haven especially for the evening. They were donated courtesy of JSP and ARCO building suppliers and are designed for women working within the construction industry to add a hint of glamour on site.

Breast Cancer Haven launched its Yorkshire Appeal in June 2007 to raise £2.2 million to open a Haven in Leeds, which will provide free support, information and complementary therapies to people affected by breast cancer across Yorkshire. Fundraising is going extremely well with £603,000 donated to date. However, local support is vital now to complete the appeal.

Breast Cancer Haven aims to open its doors at award winning scheme, The Gateway, in autumn 2008. The Haven will be located over 6,000 sq ft of the ground and first floors of the iconic turquoise ‘Gateway West’ building situated in the heart of Leeds.

Women in Property is a national organisation with regional branches, providing a supportive forum for professional women in the property and construction sector to exchange views, network, gain knowledge and create business opportunities.

Michaela Graham, chairman of the Yorkshire and North East branch of Women in Property, said: “The charity ball was a huge success and we are thrilled to support such a local and worthwhile cause in Breast Cancer Haven’s Yorkshire Appeal.

“The ladies absolutely loved the pink hard hats and the ball was a fabulous way to finish our 20th birthday year celebrations.”

Kathryn Greenwood, director of fundraising for Breast Cancer Haven, said: “It was a privilege for Breast Cancer Haven’s Yorkshire Appeal to benefit from such a great event. The Yorkshire and North East branch of Women in Property has made a fantastic contribution to the Yorkshire Appeal; we are absolutely delighted to have its support.”

The Gateway development director, Stephen Holman, said: “It’s really pleasing to see the Breast Cancer Haven appeal going from strength to strength. With the continuing support of organisations such as Women in Property we are edging ever closer to being able to welcome Breast Cancer Haven to its new home at The Gateway in the autumn.”

The pink hard hats featured are available for a minimum donation of £10 (excl P&P) from Melanie Salter tel: 0113 237 3017 for details, with funds benefiting Breast Cancer Haven’s Yorkshire Appeal.
