Solarcentury has been assisting the London Fire & Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA) and London Fire Brigade stations, part of the Greater London Authority, to reach carbon reduction targets. Under the Low Carbon Buildings Programme (LCBP) schools, local housing authorities, housing associations and other public sector and charitable bodies throughout the UK can apply for grants to assist in 50% funding for renewable energies. To date Solarcentury has supplied eight London Fire Brigade (LFB) stations with solar pv systems, enabling them to cut their carbon emissions and create their own electricity. The installation of pv is contributing to the LFB being ever closer to reaching a target of reducing its carbon emissions by 1,900 tonnes by 2010. This clean, silent technology is a widely available energy solution that is both effective and requires little ongoing attention. Such a 'fit and forget' characteristic makes solar pv, of all the renewables, an attractive proposition for most local authorities, and especially emergency service organizations
