fischer fights fire with new Firestop range

fischer is introducing a new range of passive fire protection products, which have been developed specially for the UK market. The new Firestop range includes mastics, foams, sealants, putties, boards, pipe sleeves and collars, all offering the required passive fire protection.  The product range meets all the relevant BS and EN approvals for fire resistance and comes with the fischer guarantee of quality – well-known for many years in the construction industry. The entire range comprises more than 60 products, including varying sizes, fire ratings and bespoke fire solutions, all designed to suit the most demanding applications.

fischer quality and innovation is the hallmark of the new Firestop range, which has been developed to meet both current and future market needs. All the products in the range are approved to the British Standard (BS 476 part 20 & 22), while many of them also meet the imminent EN1366-3 standard, and certain products are also FM and UL-approved.

“This new range will be distinctive in the UK market for both its breadth and quality,” says Dr Pietro Grandesso, managing director of fischer fixings UK. “Safety is a key issue for today’s building designers, so we are confident that Firestop will make a big contribution in this area.”

Key products from the range include fischer Intumescent Acoustic Mastic FiAM - suitable for sealing joints and service penetrations in fire walls, partitions, fire-rated door frames and glazing systems. Tested to BS476 Parts 20 and 22, FiAM provides up to 4 hours fire protection in joints of up to 30mm wide. In addition to the fire rating, the mastic may be used to seal joints in party walls to provide an acoustic seal. This is a high specification, one-part water-based acrylic sealant, extruded from a cartridge loaded into a standard sealant gun. The mastic is fast-curing with approximately 20-30 minutes tack-free time.

fischer intumescent Putty Pads FiPP have been designed and developed to maintain the acoustic integrity and fire resistance of plasterboard partitions. They are also designed to minimize waste and facilitate speed and ease of installation. Tested to BS476 Part 20 and EN1366-3, the putty pads offer up to two hours fire resistance. They are manufactured from a red, non-setting, silicone-based intumescent polymer. In a fire, the intumescent pad expands to fill the void left by the burnt-out electrical socket box, preventing the spread of fire through the plasterboard wall.

Other innovative products from the range include the fischer Quickpass FQP  and the fischer conduit intumescent FCi. The FQP is an engineered firestopping solution for cable management in fire-rated walls and floors. Tested to BS and EN approvals, this unique device prevents the spread of fire through a wall in the vicinity of cabling. It can be used in either a retro-fit or pre-fix installation and gives up to a two hour fire rating.

The FCi is another innovative product which allows the firestopping of cables through fire-rated walls and floors. Meeting all relevant BS and EN approvals this simple but effective product can be used immediately or left in position for future use and will give up to four hours of fire rating.
