The unique feature of the original patented Gatic design was the closely machined horizontal and vertical seating faces of the cover and frame components which, when assembled into a complete unit, provided a cover and frame that was sealed against the ingress of dirt and water and did not rock under traffic.
Although the Gatic cover has evolved over the years from being a single Shell type unit into a system of access covers with applications ranging from pedestrian to aircraft loading, the seating principal still prevails irrespective of the size of unit or the number of cover parts.
