New life for footbridge thanks to STATS

STATS has assisted Lancashire County Council to devise a scheme to refurbish the Shaw Street footbridge involving installation of bolted strengthening plates, refurbishment of the roller bearings, replacement of rivetted connections, welding repairs, replacement deckand a high performance coating system for long term corrosion protection. After replacing corrosion damaged wrought iron with standard grade S355 structural steel, the entire superstructure was hand painted with a two-pack glass flake reinforced polyester coating system. The system was applied at 650 micron minimum thickness to provide a high level of durability with 30 years estimated life to first major maintenance
